Who we are

Field HUD is made by Scrolling Is Evil LLC. Questions: support@scrollingisevil.com.

What the phone stores

Each capture: the time, compass heading and direction, inclination, roll, compass quality, magnetic field strength, and latitude, longitude and accuracy when location is on. The shutter photo is saved in the app’s own storage with the heading, coordinates and time printed on the image. Field HUD does not add photos to your photo library on its own. Your display settings are stored too. There is no account.

If your phone backs up apps to iCloud or Google, that backup can include your captures and photos. Apple or Google holds it under their own terms, and we cannot read it.

Permissions

Camera: the viewfinder, and the photo when you press the shutter. The app does not record video or audio.

Location, while the app is open: latitude and longitude on a capture, read when the HUD opens and when you press the shutter. If you refuse, captures still save heading and inclination. There is no background location.

Motion sensors: the magnetometer and accelerometer compute heading, inclination and roll on the phone. On iPhone the app reads Core Motion’s combined motion data, which also uses the gyroscope.

Photos, add only, on iPhone: iOS asks the first time you pick Save Image in the Share photo sheet, and only that photo goes into your library. Field HUD cannot see the photos already in your library.

What leaves the phone

Nothing, unless you send it. Export CSV, Export GPX and Share photo open your phone’s share sheet, and the file goes only where you pick. A shared photo shows the coordinates printed on it, and a GPX file holds the location of every capture that has one. Privacy policy and Email support in Settings open your browser or mail app.

The app has no network code, analytics, crash reporting, ads or advertising identifier.

Purchases

Field HUD has no in-app purchases.

Kids

Field HUD is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you think we have, email us and we will delete what we hold.

Deleting data

Delete capture removes a capture and its photo from the phone. Uninstalling the app removes all captures and photos. There is no server copy to delete.
