What the phone stores
Recipes you import or type, plus any lists or planner notes you add, stay in a local database on your phone. This version has no account. Uninstalling the app deletes that local data.
What leaves the phone
If you paste a TikTok, Instagram Reels, or YouTube URL, the app sends that URL, and sometimes the caption, to our extract service at tomatopotato-extract.scrollingisevil.workers.dev. Cloudflare hosts that service. It asks xAI to turn the source into ingredients and steps, then sends the recipe back to your phone. We do not create an account from that request.
Website recipes that already include structured recipe data (JSON-LD) are parsed on the phone. The app fetches the page so it can read the recipe. That page is not sent to xAI.
Do not import a source that contains someone else’s private data.
What we keep from an extract
The extract service needs the URL (and caption, if sent) long enough to run the job. We may log whether an extract succeeded, the source type (TikTok, Reels, YouTube, or site), and a short quality note so we can see when imports fail. That log is not an advertising profile. It is not tied to your name. There is no user account to attach it to.
Processors
Cloudflare hosts the extract service. xAI processes the URL or caption text to draft the recipe. Apple and Google operate TestFlight, the App Store, and Play, and they may collect their own diagnostics if you have those enabled on the device.
Each of those companies handles data under its own privacy policy. We do not sell recipes or import URLs to data brokers. There are no ads in the app. We do not use an advertising identifier.
Purchases
This version does not sell a subscription in the app. If we add one later, Apple or Google will take payment and we will update this page first.
Kids
Tomato Potato is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you think we have, email us and we will delete what we hold.
How to leave
Delete the app to remove the local recipe book. To ask us to delete extract logs we may hold, email [email protected]. We cannot delete a recipe that only exists on your phone.
